On April 2nd-3rd, 2025, NAIRR Pilot hosted a two-day workshop called AI Unlocked: Empowering Higher Ed through Research and Discovery bringing together researchers from various domains, students, high performance computing experts, representatives from major AI cloud providers such as AWS, Google etc to to connect U.S. based higher education affiliates with valuable information and resources to deepen their understanding of how to leverage AI in their current work, while also equipping participants with the skills necessary to advance their careers and achieve their specific professional objectives. The workshop was held in Denver, Colorado at The Westin Denver Downtown and had approximately 300 in person attendees and 100 virtual.
Workflows and AI Session
Pegasus team member and senior Computer Scientist at ISI , Mats Rynge presented a very well received hands on 90 min tutorial on Workflows and AI using Pegasus. We have over 70 in person attendees and 30+ attendees participating virtually.
This session provided guidance on creating and submitting AI data workflows to computational resources. Key topics included:
-
Workflow Integration: Demonstration of submitting a dataset-driven job to a NAIRR Pilot resource using workflow tools like Pegasus for efficient data processing.
-
Resource Abstraction Demonstration of creating resource overlays, bringing in GPUs and other resources from a set of NAIRR resources, into a single compute pool.
Participants gained practical knowledge on managing datasets and executing workflows on advanced computational platforms for AI projects. The tutorial slide deck can be found in the workshop GitHub repository.
